जैसलमेर से थार रेगिस्तान में 120 किमी. दूर सीमा के पास स्थित है तनोट माता का सिद्ध मंदिर। जैसलमेर में भारत पाक सीमा पर बने तनोट माता के मंदिर से 1971 के भारत-पाकिस्तान युद्ध की कई अजीबोगरीब यादें जुडी हुई हैं। 1971 के युद्ध के दौरान पाकिस्तान ने इस मंदिर वाले इलाके में 3000 तोप के गोले और बम दागे। लेकिन माता के आशिर्वाद के कारण मंदिर के पास एक भी बम नहीं फटा। जो फटे वो भी रेगिस्तान के दूर इलाके में जाकर जिससे सेना को आंच तक नहीं आई।
यही कारण है कि पाकिस्तानी सेना को परास्त करने में तनोट माता की भूमिका बड़ी अहम मानी जाती है। यहां तक मान्यता है कि माता ने सैनिकों की मदद की और पाकिस्तानी सेना को पीछे हटना पड़ा। इस घटना की याद में तनोट माता मंदिर के संग्रहालय में आज भी पाकिस्तान द्वारा दागे गये जीवित बम रखे हुए हैं।
3000 पाकिस्तानी तोप के गोले भी रहे बेअसर

सेना के जवान बने मंदिर का कवच
माता का मंदिर जो अब तक सुरक्षा बलों का कवच बना रहा, शान्ति होने पर सुरक्षा बल इसका कवच बन गये। मंदिर को बीएसएफ ने अपने नियंत्रण में ले लिया। आज यहां का सारा प्रबंध सीमा सुरक्षा बल के हाथों में है। मंदिर के अंदर ही एक संग्रहालय है जिसमें वे गोले भी रखे हुए हैं। पुजारी भी सैनिक ही है।
बन चुकी है फिल्म
